Digital marketing, internet marketing, online marketing, whatever you choose to call it, the chances are that if you’re in business, you’re already doing something in the realms of digital marketing.
If you have a website, even if it’s a standard 5-page brochure site, sort of like a online brochure for your company or organisations, then you are doing something in terms of digital marketing. If your website shows up in the Google search results from certain keywords or search terms then you could say that your website is search engine optimised, at least to some extent. Whatever you’re doing, the chances are that you could be doing more in terms of digital marketing and/or you could most likely do whatever you’re doing currently more efficiently.
Here are a few digital marketing dos and don’ts to get you started:

DO work to a digital marketing strategy – have a plan and follow through
DON’T fail to test what you’re doing, drop or do less of some of the bad bits and do more of the good bits of your digital marketing campaign
DO speak to digital marketing experts and hire a digital marketing company to help you if your budget permits
DON’T read lots of differing opinions from non-experts and try to fit it all together yourself
DO use your time efficiently and hire someone who’s experienced in digital marketing to help you do the tasks that you can’t do
DON’T waste time muddling through digital marketing related tasks and then end up producing poor results anyway
DO have clear goals in mind and hit your milestone targets
DON’T continue along month after month without really tracking what you’re doing
DO work to a daily, weekly and monthly schedule with clear aims and objectives
DON’T just do what you feel like doing from day to day or just focus on the fun bits of your digital marketing campaign
DO make sure that you know your competition and react to what they’re doing in a timely manner
DON’T fail to do your competitor analyses…on a regular basis
DO keep up-to-date with latest developments in digital marketing
DON’T use the same old techniques over and over again without evolving your process
DO adapt to changes
DON’T allow your approach to become stagnant
DO get ahead of the competition
DON’T allow your competition to catch you up once you’re ahead due to complacency
DO innovate and be a leader in your field of expertise
DON’T follow the crowd like a sheep
DO take calculated risks
DON’T choose the cheapest digital marketing companies unless you want to end up paying cheap and paying twice (in general)
