There are a number of challenges that arise when designing for the mobile web and 40% of the top 100 UK brands now have a mobile web presence. This means that customers have a more focused mobile experience from these optimised mobile website versions. In addition to this, 45% of web traffic is now through mobile devices.
So what can SMEs and other business owners learn from this? Well, this is a growing trend and it is more a requirement than a “nice to have” to incorporate a mobile friendly mobile site into your arsenal. Whereas a few years ago this was a much lower priority for the small to medium business owner.
So what design considerations are there when designing a mobile friendly version of your website and what should you expect a web design company to provide you with when you commission them to do the work?
Mobile users navigate mobile websites differently to their desktop and laptop counterparts. They swipe, tap and pinch to use the mobile version of a website so this type of usage must be incorporated into the design. I like to recommend that the most pertinent aspects of the desktop/laptop design are incorporated into the mobile site based on common heuristics and user testing. A cut down version of the larger site if you will. As with desktop/mobile sites, user testing is a very important part of Internet Marketing Platinum’s strategies and I believe in an iteration design process…in order words – an Internet Marketer’s work is never done.
